Cropped:
My Cropped collection combines the front on elevational views of the ‘Facades’ collection with the ‘Street Views’’ more abstract approach of only drawing one part of a building in detail and leaving the rest out. By looking at a cropped section of a facade the viewer is forced to notice the all the details: the texture in the stonework, the intricate carving, the positioning of the doors and windows. If you are given the whole building it is very easy to identify it from its shape so I like that these drawings take a little longer to recognise.
Unfinished:
This is the most recent style I have been using to depict architecture. Parts of the drawing I will render in high detail, and other parts I leave blank allowing the viewer to join the dots and fill in the rest. It was a natural progression from my Cropped style to the Unfinished style.

Something I love about cities and buildings is the layers of history and the stories they tell. Living in a City like London I’m always stumbling across new intriguing things like this. On my commute to my studio I walked past St Clement Danes Church and noticed the scarring in the stone. You could easily walk past this building and not notice the scars. But I like how if you look closely the facade tells a story of the past. These are the scars left from the bombing during the Blitz. It hasn’t been filled in and patched up but rather left as it is. This was the first drawing I did in a series of London bomb damaged buildings.

I created this drawing with the intention of entering it into a measured drawing competition. I chose this facade on the side of St Stephen Walbrook church in the City of London.
I went to site to take accurate measurements in order to create a scaled drawing at 1:50.
This church is round the corner from my studio so I had the pleasure of walking past it almost every day.
The talented photographer Anneri of Basque Imagery came to visit and photographed me as I worked on this drawing.
Here are some photos of the work in progress.
The final quarter left to draw. And potentially the most difficult of the four different textures.
